Sofia

Miron swerves into the opposite lane, and the blaring of a car horn wakes me. I glance over to see he’s falling asleep. Quickly, I jerk the wheel straight. “Miron, we need to pull over,” I say.

He shakes his head. “You know what happened last time.”

It’s impossible to get through to him. “We have to. You’ve been driving over six hours since we stopped at the diner.”

“No, Sofia, I can’t risk it. We could end up dead.”

I grab Miron’s arm, forcing his attention to me. “We’ll end up dead if you crash the fucking car.”

He holds my gaze for a moment before nodding his head. “Fine, there’s a motel up the road. We’ll stop for a short while.”

I sigh in relief, thankful that he agrees to pull over. Miron has only had about four hours of sleep in more than twenty-four hours since we fled my father’s home in Los Angeles.

The motel comes into view, and he pulls into the parking lot. He parks the car and turns to me. “Wait here, and I’ll get a room.”

I give him a defiant glare and cross my hands over my chest. “Why can’t I come with you?”

Miron’s jaw clenches. “Do as I say, Sofia.” The warning in his voice is palpable.

I fall back into the chair. He’s tired and been through a lot of stress. There’s no use defying him now. I watch as he walks stiffly toward the reception of the motel. Our time together on the road is making our relationship more and more confusing.

I love him more than I ever have. When he kissed me in bed, I’d never been happier. Until he licked my pussy and blew my mind, he made a dream come true as I fell asleep in his arms. Although It’s all up in the air—we’ve not discussed what it really meant for us.

He’s told me I mean everything to him, but I’m not sure I can believe it. It’s like being on a rollercoaster ride with him, as one minute he’s hot the next he’s cold.

I bared my soul to him. I told him I’d been saving myself for him. He told me that he’s wanted me for years, but I’m not sure in what capacity. Is he just attracted to me? Or does he care for me the way I care for him?

It’s not like we’ve had a chance to discuss it in detail. Now, we’re entering a motel, and those uncertainties come to the forefront of my mind.

Will he try something?

Miron returns from the reception holding a key. I get out of the car and open the back door, pulling my bag out.

Miron startles me when he appears behind me, grabbing the bag from my hand. “Did I tell you to get out of the car?” he asks.

I swallow hard at the coldness of his tone. “No, but—”

He forces me to turn around, and the ferocity of his expression makes my heart rate spike. “Sofia, you need to do what I say until we’re safe.
